Strawberries from the Garden

Protect Your Fruit and Veggies From The High Heat!
Here in the Mid-Atlantic the temperatures are just crazy! We have been hitting the mid 90's and it is very hard on veggies that are trying to produce but it is even more difficult for your fruit. If you have strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries this is not the time for them to struggle for water. Be sure to keep plants mulched and keep the watering regular. If you have irregular timing and/or amount of water your fruit harvest will suffer. As someone who loves all berries fresh and canned as jams and preserves, I will be babying my plants with a little extra TLC.

Great advice, Noelle. My strawberries are not liking this crazy heat one bit. Watering has been taking much time, but after all the work of planting many different types of berries, we sure do not want to loose them. Off to start my watering this beautiful, yet muggy morning. Here's hoping you find fun ways to stay cool.
ReplyDeleteThe heat isn't on here yet, but supposedly it's coming. This is a useful reminder. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteIt has been in the upper 90's for the last 3 days and it is really making the garden go crazy. I'm trying to keep everything evenly moist during this quirky weather, but it's not easy when it's still in the 80's at 7:00 pm.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for my straw mulch on my strawberries. It really helps!
Excuse my ignorance, but where exactly is "the Mid-Atlantic"? I live in the south of the UK, and we have had some very strange weather this year - mostly very dry and windy, so I too have had a struggle to keep my plants in good condition. Apparently there is a glut of Strawberries in England at present because of the warmer than usual weather. But then the commercial growers have the benefit of irrigation systems!
